Why you should never press any buttons on a wet cell phone
It is no secret that electronics and Water don’t mix, when you end up with a wet cell phone the way you initially react may be the difference between your phone surviving and your phone being lost forever. First off remember do not ever press buttons or plug in any type of wet electronic. The best way to think of it is like a hair dryer, if you dropped your hairdryer in the bath you would never plug it in right away to see if it’s working that would be crazy, and dangerous. A cell phone is just as much an electronic item as a hairdryer.
Many times people will press buttons on their wet cell phone just to see if their phone is still working not knowing the risk they are running. When a cell phone gets wet the water travels into the phone and covers the circuitry. When a button is pressed electrical currents are sent through the circuitry that is now wet. This could cause one or many of the circuits to be shorted out. Most shorts in circuitry can cause damage that is beyond repair, for example a blank screen, a number that doesn’t work, or a camera that no longer can zoom or take pictures.
If your phone gets wet the most important thing is to stop the power that is flowing through the circuitry in your phone. You can do this by removing the battery right away or if you have an iPhone and cannot remove the battery ensure that the phone has been turned off. This is a crucial step to save your phone. If you press a button while the phone still has power to it you run the risk of shorting out your phone. Once the electricity is no longer flowing through your phone you can begin drying it out.
